waitrose.gifWe all love good cookin’, don’t we? Man, there’s nothing better than a good lean steak and some veggies on the grill.
Today’s FamilyFirst site celebrates food, and all that’s good about it: Waitrose Food Illustrated Online. This print magazine has a great, informative website that sums up its mission thusly: �Welcome to the online edition of Waitrose Food Illustrated, the world’s most beautiful food magazine. This is the place to find out all about how to cook your favourite ingredients, look for a restaurant in your area, search for tips on better cooking or find out about how foods are produced.�
There is simply an astounding amount of information on recipes, wine, cooking tips, healthy eating, spices, BBQing, and more.


For instance, check out the database on Herbs, Spices, Seasonings and Condiments. Let’s see what we can learn about balsamic vinegar. This delicious, sumptuous condiment is a big part of my cooking. We learn that traditional balsamic vinegar starts life in autumn. Certain grapes are selected to create a solution to be boiled down until it is reduced to a third of its original volume and takes on a caramel-like consistency. The fermented vinegar spends one year in a barrel made of juniper, which imparts an intense flavor. No barrel is ever emptied, so that the vinegar is a blend of many years’ harvests, dating back to when the barrels were first used.
All I know is the result is perfect for marinating steaks!
